Instructional League Rules

  1. A GAME CONSISTS OF THREE INNINGS.
  2. SCORE WILL BE KEPT. IF A TEAM IS AHEAD BY 8 RUNS, NO MORE RUNS WILL BE COUNTED UNTIL, THAT TEAM BATS FOLLOWING THE OPPOSING TEAM, CUTTING THE DEFICIT TO LESS THAN 8 RUNS.
  3. A BATTING ORDER WILL BE ESTABLISHED FOR THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON.  THE ORDER WILL BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE SEASON WHILE CHANGING THE LEADOFF POSITION EACH GAME.  FOR EXAMPLE:  THE FIRST INNING OF THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON, THE TEAM WILL HIT IN THE ORDER ESTABLISHED BY THE COACH FOR THE SEASON.  INNING TWO OF THE FIRST GAME WILL BE LED OFF BY THE #4 HITTER IN THE LINEUP.  HITTERS 1, 2 & 3 WILL HIT AT THE END OF INNING TWO.  INNING THREE WILL BE LED OFF BY THE #7 HITTER OF THE LINEUP.  HITTERS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 WILL HIT AT THE END OF INNING THREE.  GAME TWO, THE FOLLOWING WEEK, WILL BE LED OFF BY HITTER #10, AND SO ON.  THE COACH WILL ADJUST THE BATTING ORDER EACH INNING THROUGHOUT THE SEASON.
  4. WHEN A PLAYER IS AT BAT, THE PLAYER WILL BE PITCHED TO BY THE COACH.  STRIKE COUNTS ARE NORMAL BASEBALL COUNTS.
  5. PINCH RUNNERS MUST START FROM BEHIND HOME PLATE AND PROCEED TO THE BASE AT A TROT, NOT A FULL OUT RUN, REMEMBER THEY ARE HELPING OUT, NOT ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME FOR THEMSELVES.
  6. BASERUNNERS CANNOT LEAD OFF AT ANY BASE.
  7. NO RUNNER/BATTER MAY ADVANCE MORE THAN ONE BASE ON ANY HIT WITH TWO EXCEPTIONS – 1.  GROUND RULE DOUBLE – A RUNNER/BATTER MAY ADVANCE TWO BASES ON ANY BALL THAT BOUNCES OVER/ROLLS UNDER THE OUTFIELD FENCE, 2. OUT OF THE PARK HOME RUN – ALL RUNNERS/BATTERS ADVANCE TO HOME PLATE ON ANY BALL HIT OVER THE FENCE ON THE FLY.
  8. OUTS WILL BE CALLED FOR BASE RUNNERS NOT TOUCHING BASES. OUTS WILL BE CALLED IF THE BAT LEAVES THE HOME PLATE AREA. NO THROWING OR CARRYING THE BAT TO THE BASE.  HELP THE PLAYER DROP THE BAT ONCE THE BALL IS HIT. AFTER THREE OUTS THE BASES ARE CLEARED AND NO MORE RUNS ARE RECORDED.
  9. IF A WILD THROW OCCURS IN RELAYING A BALL AFTER IT IS HIT, A PLAYER MAY NOT ADVANCE PAST THE BASE THAT THEY ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING TOWARDS.
  10. TO MAKE AN OUT IN THE FIELD, A PLAYER MUST TAG THE BASE, NOT THE RUNNER, BEFORE THE RUNNER HAS REACHED THE BASE. IF A PLAYER IS “TAGGED” OUT THEY CAN NOT REMAIN ON BASE.
  11. WHEN PLAYERS ARE HELPED IN THE FIELD BY A BUDDY, THE BUDDY WILL DIRECT BY VOICE OR LEAD THE PLAYER TOWARD THE BALL TO THROW AS DIRECTED BY THE COACH. THERE IS NO STOPPING THE BALL OR BATTING IT DOWN(UNLESS IT IS TO PROTECT THE PLAYER) FROM THE AIR BY A BUDDY OR VOLUNTEER  IF THE BALL IS CLEARLY HIT AND GOING TO HAVE A NATURAL PLAY ELSEWHERE.
  12. PLAYERS USING A WHEELCHAIR OR OTHER APPARATUS:  THE BUDDY SHOULD POSITION THE WHEELCHAIR TO AID IN THE BALL RECOVERY.  PLAYERS USING WHEELCHAIRS ARE TO BE POSITIONED BEHIND THE BASE PATH SO AS NOT TO INTERFERE WITH THE BASE RUNNER. ONCE THE BALL IS FIELDED OF COURSE THE PLAY WILL BE AT THE BASE IN THE SAFEST MANNER.  IF THE BALL IS HIT OR THROWN DIRECTLY TO PLAYER THE BUDDY MAY CATCH THE BALL IF THE PLAYER IS INCAPABLE OF CATCHING IT, THE BUDDY THEN SHOULD GIVE THE BALL TO THE PLAYER TO MAKE THE NEXT PLAY.
  13. COACHES WILL ROTATE PLAYERS THROUGHOUT THE 6 WEEK SEASON.  PLAYERS WILL NOT PLAY THE SAME POSITION TWICE WITHIN A SEASON UNLESS CIRCUMSTANCES ARISE WHERE IT IS NECESSARY.  THIS MUST BE APPROVED BY BOTH TEAMS AND THE UMPIRE.
  14. ALL BATTERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A BATTING HELMET WHILE BATTING AND RUNNING THE BASES.
  15. ONLY THE 1ST BASEMAN IS ALLOWED TO TAG OUT AT 1ST BASE.
  16. NO CELL PHONE USAGE ON THE FIELD.  WE CAN’T KEEP OUR PLAYERS SAFE IF WE ARE ON THE PHONE.
  17. THERE IS NO FOOD OR DRINK INSIDE THE FIELD OTHER THAN THE WATER PROVIDED IN THE DUGOUTS.
  18. ONLY OFFICIAL BUDDIES, PLAYER AND COACHES ARE ALLOWED IN THE DUGOUTS AND ON THE FIELD.
